About the Clayton County Library System

To contribute to the success of the citizens of our diverse community by offering a full range of library services that meet their informational, educational and leisure interests, fostering the love of reading in our youth and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge for all.

CCLS is comprised of six branch library locations: Headquarters (865 Battlecreek Road, Jonesboro), Forest Park, Lovejoy, Jonesboro, Morrow and Riverdale.

Between the six branches, the Library System owns nearly 400,000 books, magazines and journals combined. CCLS holdings also include over 7,500 audio tapes and CDs and over 5,000 videos.

In Fiscal Year 2006, the Clayton County Library System checked out 764,333 items (books and other materials) to patrons. 389,365 of those items were Children's materials.

The Library System maintains approximately 120 public internet access computers for use by the general public.

Focus on Family Literacy:
During the 2006 Vacation Reading Program, Clayton County children participating in the program read 145,860 books. Total attendance at CCLS children's programs in FY 2006 was 80,201.

Consortia:

The Clayton County Library System participates in Pines, the public library automation and lending network for 252 libraries in 123 counties in Georgia (as of November 2006). The goal of Pines is to create equality of access to materials for all Georgians.

CCLS is also a member of GALILEO. A state-wide project sponsored by the University System of Georgia, GALILEO is Georgia's virtual library and facilitates access to over 100 databases for researchers and students on a wide variety of topics.
