- Judy Ridenhour (AKA Miss Judy), an Outreach Youth Services Assistant and storyteller extraordinaire was recently selected as one of eight staff members in Georgia public libraries to receive a scholarship to attend the 25th Annual National Association of Black Storytellers conference at the Westin-Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. The conference was held from November 14 – 18, 2007 with the theme of ""Our Roots, Our Story, Our Dreams, Our Glory!". Judy reads to children at over twenty Clayton County child care centers a month. Congratulations Judy!
- The Library System helped bring nationally recognized African-American Storyteller Sharon Holley to the Virginia Gray Recreational Center in Riverdale on Friday, November 16th. Read more.
- We celebrated Children's Book Week from November 12th-18th with a Puppet Show by Al Waller's "Varmints" at Headquarters. The program was well-attended and very popular with kids and adults alike. Learn more about this educational program at www.BeAKnowItAll.net.
- Darla Rance, Youth Services Assistant at Morrow Branch Library was selected as one of the County's employees to participate in the Grassroots Leadership Institute program designed to "Prepare a generation of leaders to meet future community challenges". Darla participated in a series of 10 workshops beginning in August and wrapping up with a graduation ceremony in November. Congratulations Darla!
- Youth Services Librarian, Bea Mengel and Virtual Services Librarian, Ted Bazemore were selected along with 18 other public librarians in Georgia for the inaugural class of PINNACLE, the Public Library Institute for New and Creative Leadership Education. The goal of PINNACLE is to prepare librarians in Georgia for public library leadership.
