This wonderful, warm-hearted book by prize-winning author Barbara Kingsolver chronicles the year she and her family decided they would, with only a few exceptions, eat entirely locally, growing as much of their own food as possible, and buying the rest from local farms and butchers. The book goes month by month, discussing the planning, planting, harvesting, items in season, and the challenges and rewards of their efforts. It also includes recipes and resources, which are very handy if you want to try and tackle any of the projects she describes. This book is a wonderful memoir mixed with fascinating research about where food comes from and how it gets to your plate. The book doesn't scold - it enlightens and entertains!
