Staff Review:
The Magicians is a more adult take on the concept of what life *really* would be like if you found out you could do magic. Quentin Coldwater, a high school senior, is magically transported to a college entrance exam for a secret college for learning magic, and passes with flying colors. But learning magic is difficult and tiring, and being able to do tricks doesn't make Quentin any less immature and self-absorbed. And the fantasy worlds he discovers aren't quite like the books he read as a child - the battles are real, the bad guys are unimaginably powerful, and the losses are permanent. This imaginative novel is first in a trilogy, and for mature readers interested in coming-of-age stories and fantasy, this book is well worth your time.
