Online Research Databases
These databases are suggested for use for General Audiences. K - 12 students may wish to visit our Databases for Students page. The Clayton County Library System is part of the GALILEO consortium which provides access to over 180 databases appropriate for every age level and covering almost every subject.
This list represents the best GALILEO has to offer for general audiences - and lists additional databases we subscribe to independently. You may also access all GALILEO databases.
For simplicity sake, almost all databases (even those we subscribe to independently) are available remotely with the GALILEO Password. There are two ways to get the password*.
*Some resources may be available with your library card also.

- ProQuest Newspapers - Atlanta Journal-Constitution (1990-),Los Angeles Times (1985-), New York Times (1980-), Wall Street Journal (1984-), Washington Post (1987-), Christian Science Monitor (1988-).
General Magazine and Journal Articles
- MasterFILE Premier, from EBSCOHost is a general database created for public libraries. It includes over 1,800 journals and general magazines covering general reference, business, consumer health, science and more.
- Academic Search Complete also from EBSCOHost, is similar to MasterFile but includes over 9,000 scholarly journals in addition to general magazines. Note that all EBSCO databases can be searched simultaneously.
- Encyclopaedia Britannica – GALILEO offers multiple interfaces to EB designed for different age groups as well as a Spanish language version. The Public Library edition is recommended for adults and college age students.
- Oxford Art Online – Online version of the 34-volume Dictionary of Art.
- History Reference Center - A good source for historical topics for all ages but especially students. Includes full-text encyclopedia and journal articles, primary documents, images and even video.
- New Georgia Encyclopedia – Online encyclopedia of Georgia history, culture, geography and more.
- LIterature ONline (LION) – Excellent resource for studying literature and author biography. Compare to Literature Resource Center (Clayton PL subscription)
- Literature Resource Center (Library Card required) – A collection of critical essays and biographies in literature. The online equivalent of the Gale series of Literary Criticism. Log in through GALILEO.
- Gale Virtual Reference Library (Library Card required) – A collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources. Log in through GALILEO.
- Merck Manual – Standard, easy to use medical reference books
- HeritageQuest Online – Census records from 1790-1930, county and family histories, Freedman’s Bureau records, Revolutionary War records.
- Ancestry Library Edition – Census records, US immigration records, Birth and Death records. (In Library Use Only)
- ReferenceUSA (Library Card required) - Market research tool for small businesses. Conduct job searches, find out-of-town companies, develop mailing lists and generate sale leads. Log in through GALILEO.
- Ferguson's Career Guidance Center (Library Card required) Excellent too for career research, refining online job hunting, career changers, resume and cover letter preparation and more. Read more.

- ABI Inform Complete - Fulltext business and management articles. (Compare to Business Source Complete)
- Business Source Complete - Fulltext business and management articles. (Compare to ABI)
- Hoover's - Brief profiles and company histories for U.S. public and private companies.
- LearningExpress - Practice tests and electronic test preparation books for many official exams. (Patrons must go through our web page but set up individual accounts).
- ChiltonLibrary (Library Card required) – Online auto repair manuals from Chilton’s. Covers most vehicles manufactured in the last 30 years. Log in through GALILEO.
- Gale Legal Forms (Library Card required) - Do-it-yourself legal forms (state and federal). Forms are available for bankruptcy, bill of sale, divorce, wills, trusts, power of attorney and more. Log in through GALILEO.
