2014 Summer Reading Program

May 24 through August 9, 2014

The Clayton County Library Service offers summer programming for library patrons of all ages! Research has shown that reading over the summer break helps prevent students from losing ground and helps prepare them for the next school year - stop the "summer slide" by participating in the library's Summer Reading Program!

For Kids: "Fizz, Boom, Read!" Summer Reading Program

For kids ages 11 years & younger
May 24 - August 9, 2014

Participate in this program encouraging young people to read and listen to books for fun.

Pick up a reading log at the public library to keep track of your reading. Visit the library to select a fun incentive, one per week. Reading may be done anywhere: home, school, vacation, etc. All programs, materials, and incentives are FREE.

READ 18 BOOKS OR READ FOR 12 HOURS TO RECEIVE YOUR OWN FREE PAPERBACK!

Pre-readers, as well as older children, may participate by having books read aloud to them. All participants are requested to read books appropriate to their reading level. The Summer Reading Program is not a summer camp/child care program. Please call to register to attend individual summer events.

This program officially ends on Aug. 9. However, reading folders may still be brought back to the library through Aug. 30. Individual incentives are available only while supplies last and the library may make substitutions. Library will be closed July 4.

Online books are available through TumbleBooks or Sesame Street Online Books.

Read anything, read anywhere, participate in fun events, and earn rewards! Here's how to join the fun:

You Are Here
  1. Pick up a reading log at any Clayton County Library to keep track of your reading.
  2. Read 10 hours to earn a FREE book! (One per person.)
  3. Visit the library every week between May 24 and August 10 for an additional reward (one per week - specific rewards are available only while supplies last).

The Summer Reading Program and weekly incentives officially end on August 9. However, you may still register, and/or bring your reading log back to the library through August 31. You will receive a free book once you've read for 10 hours during the summer.

2014 Atlanta Braves "Home Run Readers" Summer Reading Program

This summer, the Atlanta Braves are again partnering with Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) for the 2014 Atlanta Braves Summer Reading Program, "Home Run Readers," presented by SUBWAY.

Home Run Readers rewards students in grades K-12 throughout the state of Georgia with a free Braves ticket and a free SUBWAY "Fresh Fit For Kids Meal" for reading books and completing an online activity.

Discounted tickets for accompanying family members and friends will be available for each game for as low as $12 each. "One (1) SUBWAY® Restaurants Fresh Fit For Kids Meal voucher per student, good at participating restaurants in Atlanta and at select locations statewide. Contact your local SUBWAY® for details prior to redemption."

Tickets can only be reserved via the Braves web site, www.braves.com/reading, and must be booked at least 8 days in advance of the game. Games will not show as an option once they are a week away from the starting time. This cannot be changed. It is part of the Braves' online ticketing system.

The following games are a part of the promotion:

  • Tuesday, July 22, versus the Miami Marlins;
  • Sunday, Aug. 17, versus the Oakland Athletics;
  • Tuesday, Sept. 2, versus the Philadelphia Phillies; and
  • Tuesday, Sept. 23, versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.

A JPEG of a completion certificate that will pop up when a participant registers for their free ticket. The participant must fill in his or her name, along with a book title/author and a promotion code that they must get from their local Clayton County Branch Library.

Home Run Readers is open to all Georgia students in grades K-12. The sign-up period runs through Aug. 24.

Pick up a bookmark at any Clayton County Library Branch to learn how to enter a sweepstakes to win $5,529 in a college savings plan for your child's or grandchild's education, plus $1,529 for the library for children's and teen's materials and programming! The entry deadline is August 15, 2013. More information and entry form at www.path2college.com
