After registration, the youth reader may read anywhere. There is no minimum age for participation since young children and infants may have books read aloud to them. Parents of infants are also invited to register their children. Children and teenagers may read any reading material that is acceptable to their parents including books, magazines, newspapers, comic books, graphic novels, instruction manuals, recipes, and Internet text.
Readers are not required to read books from the library. Books heard at story times may also be included. Summer story times are being offered at selected Clayton County public libraries and at Barnes & Noble Booksellers on Mt. Zion Rd. in Morrow (11 a.m. Thursdays & Saturdays).

Additional details:
At registration, readers entering grades Kindergarten to 12 will receive an Atlanta Hawks & Thrashers “Check-it-Out Reading Challenge” bookmark between June 2 and August 15th. After reading a book, readers will need to log onto www.checkitoutreading.com in order to register to receive a free youth ticket to a 2009-10 Atlanta Hawks game & a free youth ticket to a 2009-10 Atlanta Thrashers game.
To register a group of children, or teens, contact Janice Arcuria, Assistant Director/Youth Services, by phone 770-210-5238, by fax 770-473-3858, or by email arcuriaj@claytonpl.org. Participants should return with their reading logs to the library at which they registered when they have completed 18 BOOKS OR HAVE READ OR LISTENED TO BOOKS FOR 9 HOURS. Each reader who reaches this goal will receive a certificate suitable for framing, and may select a free, new paperback book to keep. Reward books are available that appeal to readers of all ages.
NEW THIS YEAR—FREE WEEKLY PRIZE INCENTIVES!!! Visit the library once a week to select a free prize incentive. Each library will have a PRIZE BOARD Display that shows the incentive choices plus a “Treasure Box” with some more incentives. Each week, any youth who visits any of the six Clayton County public libraries, AND WHO IS REGISTERED FOR THE VACATION READING PROGRAM AND WHO BRINGS HIS/HER READING LOG WITH HIM/HER, may select an incentive to take home.
Only one prize incentive per registered Summer Reading Program participant per week. Incentives at our Libraries may vary and supplies are limited. After the 18 books/9 hours milestone, no additional incentives will be given out based on the number of books or hours read. For statistical purposes at each library visit, library staff or library volunteers will look at each reading log and record the number of books read on the participant’s registration card.
