GALILEO Databases

GALILEO is an on-line research portal subscribed to by the Library System, consisting of over 150 databases. This includes encyclopedias, indexes to magazine and journal articles, and reports.  Some, but not all, of the articles and reports are available in full text (meaning the entire text of an article will be displayed). If you locate an item that is not available in full text, it may be possible for us to get the full text through inter-library loan.  Contact any of our libraries for further information.

  • How To Use GALILEO

GALILEO is available at all libraries of the Clayton County Library System by using our Internet terminals.

Patrons who have their own Internet access can use GALILEO when not at the library.  The easiest way to get the GALILEO password account from your home computer is log into PINES from home and select the GALILEO link at the bottom of the screen once you are at the "My Account" page.

  • What GALILEO Products Should I Use?

There are many products from which to choose.  At the GALILEO homepage there is a list of all the products (called databases) from A-Z.  By looking through that list, you can make selections for which product you want to use.  You might wish to try the following GALILEO products when researching African American History, Inventions, and Biographies.

  • Academic Search Complete provides many full text magazine and journal articles.  Many times magazines and journals offer biographical information even on historical figures.
  • Encyclopædia Britannica Online is a lot like its multi-volume, print counterpart that is in our libraries.  For biographical information, this is a good place to start.
  • Grove Dictionary of Art is a specialized encyclopedia with articles covering all aspects of the visual arts--paintings, sculpture, architecture, graphic arts, decorative arts, and photography.  Biographical information is available.
  • History Reference Center - A good source for historical topics for all ages but especially for students. This database Includes full-text encyclopedia and journal articles, primary documents, images and even video.
  • Literature Online Reference (LION) - An excellent source for literary criticism and biographies of American writers.
  • Literary Reference Center - Literary criticism, author biographies, full-text articles, poems, and short stories.
  • Research Library from ProQuest provides many full text magazine and journal articles.  Many times magazines and journals offer biographical information even on historical figures.
  • Getting To GALILEO
