GALILEO Ideas
|
|
GALILEO is a research product available via the Internet.
GALILEO consists of over 150 databases that include encyclopedias,
indexes to magazine and journal articles, and reports. Some, but
not all, of the articles and reports are available in full text (meaning the entire text of an article will be displayed). If you locate an item that is not
available in full text, it may be possible for us to get the full
text through inter-library loan. Contact any of our libraries for
further information.
GALILEO is available at all libraries of the Clayton County Library
System by using our Internet terminals.
Patrons who have
their own Internet access can use GALILEO when not at the library.
If this is the first time you are using GALILEO from home or work,
please view the following
instructions
for getting your GALILEO password.
- What GALILEO database should I Use?
There are many products from which to choose. At the GALILEO
homepage there is a list of all the databases listed alphabetically. By looking through that list, you can make selections for
which product you want to use. You might wish to try the following
GALILEO products when researching African American History, Inventions,
and Biographies.
- Academic Search Complete provides
many full text magazine and journal articles. Many times
magazines and journals offer biographical information even on
historical figures.
- Consumer Health Complete - An excellent medical reference - includes prescription drug information, a medical encyclopedia, some research reports and alternative therapy articles. This database is comparable to the Merck Manual. More accessible but less in-depth
- Encyclopædia Britannica Online is the on-line equivalent of the multi-volume, printed encyclopedia. An excellent starting point for gaining a general understanding and refining of your topic.
- MEDLINE - Index and abstracts of journal articles in the health sciences with links to full text.
- Merck Manual - Standard medical handbooks of reliable, easy-to-use medical information
- Research Library from ProQuest provides many full
text magazine and journal articles. Many times magazines and
journals offer biographical information even on historical figures.
