Frequently Asked Questions
PINES library cards are free to all residents of Georgia, including those who live in areas of the state served by a library that does not participate in the PINES network. People who attend school, own property, or are employed in Georgia but who live out-of state are also eligible for a free PINES card. Most PINES cards are valid for two (2) years from date of application. Library card applicants need to come to any one of our libraries and complete and sign an application form. Identification must be presented to register for a library card. Proper ID must include a current Georgia address. Examples of acceptable ID include:
- A current, valid driver's license
- A current, valid voter registration card
- A check with a pre-printed address
- A utility bill, tax receipt, lease, or mailing that shows the user's name and current address.
Georgia property owners who do not reside in the state may be required to show proof of ownership such as a tax bill or deed. Persons employed in Georgia or attending school in Georgia but who live out-of-state may be required to show proof of employment or enrollment. Out-of-state cards are available for an annual fee of $25.00.
There is no minimum age for a child to receive a PINES card. A parent or legal guardian must register for his or her child, if the child is under 18 years of age. The parent or legal guardian needs to show his or her own proper identification to register a child, and he or she must sign the child's application. A child's parent or guardian is responsible for materials borrowed by his or her child.
