Support the Clayton County Library System
Are you interested in getting involved with the community? Working with the Library System is a great way to support your community, can be personally rewarding and is a good way to meet like minded people. There are several ways you can help:
- Become a Friend of the Library - The Friends meet on the second Monday of each month at 10 AM, usually in the meeting room of the Headquarters Library. The Friends of the Library raise funds through a monthly used book sale at the Headquarters Library on the last Saturday of each month (except December). They need volunteers/members to assist with the set-up (on Friday) and sales on Saturday at the book sales. Funds raised support the libraries in many ways including programs for children, furniture, and equipment. They are a 501 (c) 3 organization and all contributions to the Friends of the Library are tax deductible.
- Contribute to the Clayton County Library Foundation - Funds raised by the Library Foundation augment the Library System's budget and help us enhance our services to help meet community needs. Among other initiatives, the Library Foundation co-sponsors our subscription to Live Homework Help, an online tutoring service for Clayton County students. All contributions are tax deductible and the Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 organization. For more information, contact Brenda Morant, Executive Director at (404) 587-3126, BrendaMorant@msn.com or see their website: www.cclfga.org.
- Volunteer - Volunteer opportunities abound with the Library System. We are always on the look out for individuals interested in gaining experience in the library profession. Please contact the Branch Manager at the location you are interested in for details.
Youth Volunteers - Youth, ages 12 to 18, are encouraged to volunteer at the public library to earn community service hours, gain useful job experience, and give back to the community by helping make the library a better place. All volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation session. Once trained, volunteers help with various projects such as preparing materials for storytimes, straightening shelves and books, assisting children with computers, cleaning materials such as toys, help with special events and programs, and assisting people with the Vacation Reading Program during the summer. If you are interested in becoming a youth volunteer, pick up an application at any of our libraries.
- Donate - The library system welcomes donations of new and used books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and monthly magazines. Items needed for the library collection will be added and the remainder will be sold by the Friends of the Library to raise funds for the library. The library will be happy to provide a receipt for donations. Materials may be dropped off at any of our branches.
We appreciate all your support!
