What's Up? Wednesdays-Who Do You Think You Are? (Genealogy)

When: Wednesday, April 16 at 4:30 PM
Where: Lovejoy Branch
Description: There's always something happening for teens on a Wednesday afternoon at the Lovejoy Library.  Whether it's searching for your family history (Who Do You Think You Are?) or some other exciting event.  Stop by to see "what's up?" at the library. In order to participate in this program, you will need Maternal and Paternal information (i.e. Parents' or Grandparents' names and birthdays). Teen "Book Talk" with Author Ron Walker

VerbalEyze Open Mic

Where: Headquarters Branch
Description:

This program presented by VerbalEyze Writers Cooperative (www.verbaleyze.org), allows young poets and other members of the community to step to the mic and share words, art, and passions!  This open mic will be held at the Headquarters Library every third Saturday of the month.  The Clayton County Library is a family-friendly environment, and all open mic content must be appropriate to such an environment.

Recommended for ages 12-22.

No registration required, just drop in.

Facing My "Giants:" Teen Peer Group

When: Tuesday, April 22 at 4:00 PM
Where: Jonesboro Branch
Description: Hey Teens: join a new teen peer group that will meet weekly on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 10.  The series will acknowledge the fears of various life situations and the issues that teens face every day and will help teens develop the endurance necessary to succeed. Utilizing the "tools" highlighted in this program, teens will develop the skills necessary to reach their goals and maximum potential.  Also have fun, relax, and maybe meet some new friends.

Light refreshments will be served. Meet in the library meeting room. Recommended for ages 12-19.

This series is supervised, and presented, by Angela Tabb from "The Healing Harvest," a local non-profit organization.  For more information, please contact Ms. Tabb. The library system is providing meeting space for this series as a community service.

Another Way Another Chance Mentoring Teen Males 12-17

When: Tuesday, April 22 at 5:30 PM
Where: Headquarters Branch
Description:
This is a 6-week mentoring series for teen males, ages 12-17. Participants should plan on attending the entire series.  This series begins on April 15, 2014.

Life skills to be covered include:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Teen Pregnancy
  • Role & Responsibilities As a Young Man
  • What It Takes to Get Ahead & Get Along
  • Violence Is Not the Answer
  • Dressing for Success

Sessions will be taught by J.J. Jenkins from Another Way Another Chance. Participants will also be encouraged to get library cards to gain access to both in-house, and online, resources, including Freegal which allows three free music downloads weekly with a library card--and three streaming movies weekly.
