Teen Fingerprint & Blackout Poetry

When: Thursday, April 24 at 4:30 PM
Where: Headquarters Branch
Description:

For National Poetry Month teens are invited to get creative with their words and talents.  Find out how to make unique poetry using your own fingerprint and also strategically blacking out words to highlight words and phrases on a page.

Recommended for ages 12-18.

Facing My "Giants:" Teen Peer Group

When: Tuesday, April 29 at 4:00 PM
Where: Jonesboro Branch
Description: Hey Teens: join a new teen peer group that will meet weekly on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 10.  The series will acknowledge the fears of various life situations and the issues that teens face every day and will help teens develop the endurance necessary to succeed. Utilizing the "tools" highlighted in this program, teens will develop the skills necessary to reach their goals and maximum potential.  Also have fun, relax, and maybe meet some new friends.

Light refreshments will be served. Meet in the library meeting room. Recommended for ages 12-19.

This series is supervised, and presented, by Angela Tabb from "The Healing Harvest," a local non-profit organization.  For more information, please contact Ms. Tabb. The library system is providing meeting space for this series as a community service.

Teen Healthy Eating Class with Gail Kefentse.

Come out to our Healthy Eating series for Teens with expert healthy eating Guru Gail Kefentse.  Learn how to make quick and delicious mails that anyone can make regardless of their cooking experience.  Most importantly, these meals are healthy and will contribute to a Teen Healthy lifestyle.  For Teens 12 and Older.

Another Way Another Chance Mentoring Teen Males 12-17

When: Tuesday, April 29 at 5:30 PM
Where: Headquarters Branch
Description:
This is a 6-week mentoring series for teen males, ages 12-17. Participants should plan on attending the entire series.  This series begins on April 15, 2014.

Life skills to be covered include:

  • Peer Pressure
  • Teen Pregnancy
  • Role & Responsibilities As a Young Man
  • What It Takes to Get Ahead & Get Along
  • Violence Is Not the Answer
  • Dressing for Success

Sessions will be taught by J.J. Jenkins from Another Way Another Chance. Participants will also be encouraged to get library cards to gain access to both in-house, and online, resources, including Freegal which allows three free music downloads weekly with a library card--and three streaming movies weekly.
